Our museum is for everyone, regardless of background, age or disability.
The Tropenmuseum plays a central role in the society and therefore does everything it can to make the museum accessible to for as many people as possible.
The Tropenmuseum is located in the KIT Royal Tropical Institute building, It was the largest building in the city at the start of the ‘20s. This magnificent heritage building was designed by J.J. van Nieukerken and is full of references to Dutch colonial history.
The museum has an elevator and a disabled toilet.
Two disabled parking spaces are available in the car park of the neighbouring Amsterdam Tropen Hotel. These are free of charge on display of your disability card. Reservation is not required.
Wheelchairs & mobility scooters
The Tropenmuseum is easily accessible to wheelchair users. There are no obstacles and the elevator gives access to all floors. The museum also has several unmechanised wheelchairs for visitors. Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit the museum with a mobility scooter.
More specific information about the accessibility of the building and the facilities can be found on the website of GoldenCrossData
